Webber Wentzel is proud to have been shortlisted in 19 categories in the 2023 African Legal Awards. Being nominated across so many critical categories is a real endorsement of Webber Wentzel's standing in the African legal market.
Some of the categories in which the firm has been shortlisted include: African Law Firm of the Year, African Network/Alliance of the Year, Best Use of Technology, ESG Initiative of the Year, and the CSR, Diversity, Transformation and Economic Empowerment Award.
Webber Wentzel's experts have also been shortlisted based on their leadership, legal skills, initiative, client relationship skills and contribution to the wider community.
- Dario Milo has been shortlisted for Partner of the Year for his involvement in various (high-profile) media freedom and administrative law cases, including the defamation case brought by President Zuma against the cartoonist Zapiro.
- Tobia Serongoane has been shortlisted for the Private Practice Most Promising Newcomer Award for working on prominent cases including assisting a large mining company in conducting an ESG risk assessment of its mining operation in Sub-Saharan Africa and for contributing to the wider community by offering pro bono assistance as an Advisory Board Member in a few empowering NGOs.
- Mncedisi Mpungose has been shortlisted for the Private Practice Rising Star Award for his involvement in influential transactions such as the Sanlam Allianz joint venture and for using his legal skills and expertise on a pro bono and voluntary basis as a board of director of Medecins Sans Frontières Southern Africa (MSF).
The awards ceremony will take place on 1 September 2023 and will be hosted by Law.com International in partnership with the Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa (CCASA) and Africa Legal. The full shortlist of the nominees can be viewed here.
