Webber Wentzel, the leading full-service law firm in Africa, has donated ZAR 200,000 to the University of Cape Town (UCT) to help restore the African research facilities destroyed in the fire which swept across Table Mountain in April.
The fire, which began on 18 April near Rhodes Memorial, damaged various UCT facilities. The UCT’s Jagger Reading Room and Special Collections, which house invaluable African historical resources, were almost completely destroyed, and unique documents were lost. A great deal of work is needed to restore the space of study and the enormous wealth of African content.
Webber Wentzel’s donation will help in the conservation and rebuilding of UCT's Jagger Reading Room and help UCT to fulfil its mission as one of the leading repositories of African research resources.
