For our legal professionals, careers at Webber Wentzel are a two-way deal. You’ll be expected to work hard, be driven to succeed and committed to excellence. We’ll be focused on your development and support your career aspirations in return.
Candidate Attorney
Years 1-2 During your two year training you will rotate through three practice areas. The focus of this early part of your career is on working hard to develop basic core skills for practice. You will be expected to prepare for and pass the Attorneys' Admission Examinations.
Associate
Years 2-4 After qualifying, this is where you'll start your career in one of our practice areas. The focus of your junior years is to build exceptional technical expertise through broad exposure to a wide range of work types. Associates are also expected to start engaging with key concepts around client service, business development and profiling. Many of our Associates have been on secondment to clients and Linklaters' offices globally, offering them incredible opportunities to gain in-house experience and work abroad at an international firm. For those of you looking to expand your knowledge of Africa and build relationships across the continent, we have also arranged training and engagement sessions at our relationship firms in Africa.
Senior Associate
Year 4+ The next step is promotion to Senior Associate (SA). This assumes you have demonstrated significant technical expertise, leadership qualities and the ability to operate at a senior level. As a Senior Associate you’ll be more engaged in the business: solving the most difficult legal issues, nurturing client relationships, leading teams and accounting for financial performance. You’ll be aware of developments in adjacent areas and consider how these will affect your clients.

Partner
Once they've proven themselves with clients and colleagues, the very best Senior Associates may be considered for election to the partnership. Combining serious experience with a track record of strong performance, Partners are leaders and world-class experts in their fields. Partners are first appointed as salaried partners, then equity.
As a partner with us, you will be supported extensively in refining your practice management skills and leadership skills through training and mentorship.
Alternate careers
Some of our lawyers have found opportunities and professions outside of practice, but still within the firm. These people have added incredible value to our specialist Business Services teams, joining our Knowledge & Learning; Strategy & Business Improvement; Business Development, Marketing & Communications; and General Counsel Teams.
