Business Development, Marketing & Communications (BDMC)
Our BDMC team works with our legal teams to build successful and long-lasting relationships with our clients. They are responsible for identifying and pursuing business development opportunities, as well as building the firm's brand, media profile and relationships with key audiences.

We understand the importance of understanding the client paradigm and hearing the client voice; the firm's Director of Client Growth sits on both the Board and ExCom.
Facilities & Logistics
The Facilities and Logistics team is committed to ensuring that your facilities are effectively and efficiently managed. The team is responsible for a range of services relating to the infrastructure and support of an optimum business environment with a focus on adding value to the firm's core business operations.
Finance
The Finance team is responsible for managing the firm's financial operations and accounting. This includes the firm's day to day financial management, transactional accounting and reporting functions in order to ensure that the firm's assets are effectively managed for maximum profitability and return. The operational efficiency, accuracy and compliance of all financial accounts in line with International Financial Reporting Standards and statutory regulations are overseen from within the department. We were the first South African law firm to have a pricing capability in the finance department.
Human Resources (HR)
The HR team is responsible for driving and managing the overall provision of HR management services, policies and programmes for the entire firm, ensuring that all HR initiatives are aligned to the strategic vision and values of the firm. The HR team delivers on strategic and transactional HR services including: leadership development; talent management; change management; transformation; organisational design and development; performance management and reward; employee branding and culture; and labour relations. Our HR team includes dedicated centres of excellence for talent management, remuneration and transformation to ensure the firm has a real focus on its talent.
Information Technology (IT)
IT is a primary business enabler and supports a firm's client delivery explicitly. Using innovation in technology creates competitive advantage for the firm, whilst maintaining the security of our networks keeps everyone on their toes. We were the first law firm in South Africa to appoint a Chief Information Officer and are ensuring that we are well positioned to embrace the disruption of technology in the sector.
Robotic process automation, internet of things, cyber security and artificial intelligence are some of our new delivery capabilities. We invest considerably in the careers of technology professionals, and in the technology that helps us to serve our clients and our people better. We also focus on delivering mobility to facilitate flexible working, access to know-how and collaboration with each other and our clients.
Knowledge & Learning (K&L)
The firm's K&L team enables our lawyers to deliver the very highest quality service to our clients, efficiently. We achieve this through close collaboration between our Know How, Library and Learning & Development functions, ensuring a co-ordinated approach to the firms' diverse legal knowledge and skills needs. In addition, the legal project management and technology expertise of our Legal Services Centre and Knowledge Systems team ensure that our firm has the templates, tools, legal assistant (paralegal) support and legal technology that are needed to deliver client matters cost-effectively.
Our firm has been pioneering the K&L space for many years and was one of the first South African firms to appoint a head of K&L many years ago.
General Counsel
The Office of General Counsel advises the firm on legal matters. This dedicated team of lawyers and support staff are responsible for protecting the interests and reputation of the firm.
Strategy & Business Improvement
Our Strategy & Business Improvement team is a centre of excellence for strategic appraisal, project management, process optimisation and change management within the firm. We ensure that our practice and business services evolve in line with the firm strategy.

The team is also home to the firms' Project Office with key resources that ensure that our strategy is translated into operational goals through managed and measured activities. The team is also responsible for ensuring that standards are set and maintained in the firm.
