Ansarada DealMakers has recently announced its shortlist for deals of the year and its shortlist for individual dealmaker of the year.
Webber Wentzel was involved in two of the three deals shortlisted for Deal of the Year, one of the three deals shortlisted for Private Equity Deal of the Year, one of the four deals shortlisted for BEE Deal of the Year, and one of the three deals shortlisted for the Business Rescue Transaction of the Year.
Webber Wentzel's senior partner, Christo Els, has also been shortlisted for the Ince Individual DealMaker of the Year award. Christo advised on a number of transactions during 2022, including Walmart's acquisition of the remaining shares in Massmart, the take private by the Manta Bidco consortium of Mediclinic International and the Sanlam/Allianz joint venture of their insurance assets in Africa, the latter two transactions being shortlisted for the Brunswick Deal of the Year. The Walmart transaction is somewhat full circle for Christo - he also advised Walmart in the original transaction to acquire a controlling stake in Massmart, a transaction for which he was named joint Dealmaker of the Year in 2011.
