WITS gala honours Webber Wentzel's graduate team

Webber Wentzel's graduate team celebrated a successful evening at the Wits Law Gala Dinner, on Saturday, 5 October 2024. The annual event, hosted by the Wits Law Student Council, recognises the achievements of final-year law students. The Webber Wentzel team was honoured with two prestigious awards: the Best Merch Award and the Empower Her Project of the Year award.

The firm was singled out among participating firms for its exceptional engagement with Wits law students. The firm's standout merchandise provided during on-campus events left a lasting positive impression on the student community, earning them the Best Merch Award.

In addition, the Empower Her Project of the Year award acknowledged Webber Wentzel's unwavering commitment to social responsibility and community support. The firm's generous donation as part of the LSC's period poverty initiative demonstrated their impactful contributions to the lives of those in need.

Webber Wentzel is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals who are part of its graduate programmes. This commitment is reflected in various initiatives, such as:

  • Candidate Attorney Mentorship Programme: This programme is designed to empower incoming candidate attorneys (CAs) through the transition from academic life to the dynamic world of legal practice.
  • Work-Readiness Programme: A three-day immersion experience for incoming CAs, aimed at equipping them with the practical skills and confidence necessary to launch a successful legal career.
  • Job Shadow Programme: Open to grade 11, 12 and university law students to gain exposure to the legal field.
  • Experience Programme: A twice-yearly programme offering first and second-year law students insights into a law firm environment.
  • Future showcase: A competitive process where shortlisted students participate in assessments and interviews to determine their eligibility for the CA programme (for the year to which they applied).

"We are proud to see our graduate team recognised for their commitment to shaping tomorrow's leaders" said Tasneem Fakie, Acting Human Resources Director at Webber Wentzel. "Empowering future leaders starts with nurturing young talent today. Together, we are building a brighter future by fostering healthy environments that spark innovation".
